As part of the European EEPLIANT4 project, market surveillance authorities are currently assessing whether solid fuel local space heaters comply with applicable EU requirements. Particular attention is being given to requirement of Regulation (EU) 2015\/1185 on Ecodesign and Regulation 2015\/1186 on energy labelling for local space heaters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ongoing activities focus primarily on wood-burning stoves and pallet stoves. According to publicly available information, more than 100 appliances have already undergone an initial review. For a number of these products, authorities are conducting a more detailed assessment of manufacturer\u2019s documentation, including technical files, declaration of conformity, test reports, and entries in the European product database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the authorities are monitoring online sales channels. A review of numerous webshops in being carried out to verify whether mandatory energy labels are displayed correctly. Preliminary findings suggest that compliance levels remain relatively low, prompting authorities to contact affected retailers and request corrective actions where necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next phase of the project will involve laboratory testing. A total of 20 solid fuel appliances are expected to be tested, with the majority being wood-burning stoves. These laboratory assessments are scheduled to being in the second half of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
