The RRF talks about political issues in Berlin

The industry association Europäisches Feuerstatten Arbeitsgemeinschaft (EFA) discusses mainly political topics at the autumn conference – The RRF participates in the exchange

The autumn conference of the Europäisches Feuerstatten Arbeitsgemeinschaft (EFA) which took place from 24 to 25 October 2019 in Berlin, focused mainly on political branch work in the European core market Germany. In close proximity to the Chancellor’s office and the Bundestag, the most important European industry representatives joined besides the RRF to vote on the political positions.

Despite the tense situation, EFA-CEO Mr. Uwe Striegler sees an opportunity for the industry and craftsmanship to actively shape the future. “the amendment of the BImSchV, the introduction of the “Blauer Engel” and the discussion regarding the derivation conditions are just as much technical as well as political issues,” says Striegler.

The program of the meeting also became politically. Tino Sorge, member of the Bundestag, showed points of contact to the German federal politics. Dr. Johannes R. Gerstner, EFA-CEO, drew attention to the need for unity between all associations in Germany and offered the support from the EFA. Tim Froitzheim, ZVSHK, explained the current state of the particle and environmental discussion. Dirk Böhringer, technical manager of the EFA, offered a European perspective beyond the current German discussion. Prof. Dr. Michael Mäs from The University of Groningen (Netherlands) announced an EFA-supported research project on the public discussion of particular matters.

Christian Droll represented the RRF and introduced himself and his role as chairman of the Research and Science Advisory Board. In addition, the future members of the advisory board were presented and the members of the association will have the opportunity to participate.

The association EFA is growing – six new members have joined since March 2019 – and is an effective platform for representing industry interests and a way to voice the interests for fireplaces and chimneys.

Recruitment for the team

We are happy to welcome a familiar face to the RRF again.

After completing the half-year internship at the RRF and successfully completing her education, we welcome Mrs. Jacqueline Bojarski back to the team of the RRF.

We look forward to working with the two new team members.

The Europäische Feuerstätten Arbeitsgemeinschaft (EFA) invited to the spring conference in Leipzig – RRF discussed the most urgent European issues.

  • Lectures give insight into emission issues and alternatives to the fuel wood.
  • Association reacts to strong growth with new organizational structure

From May 15 to 16, the spring conference of the Europäische Feuerstätten Arbeitsgemeinschaft brought together the most important representatives of the furnace and chimney and supply industry in the trade fair city of Leipzig, the site of the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Umweltforschung (UFZ). The choice of location was not coincidental, as Uwe Striegler, chairman of the Europäische Feuerstätten Arbeitsgemeinschaft, made clear: “Questions about the environmental and health are the central questions in our industry. We represent an industry that is committed to its responsibility – there is no ‘keep it up’ for the industry! “

Dennis and Christian Droll also participated in the discussions, representing the interests of the RRF and its customers. And the talks were quite critical, but constructive. Dr. Ingo Hartmann from the Deutschen Biomasseforschungszentrum (DBFZ) presented the scientific perspective of the issue of emissions, Rico Essbach from the DBI gave important insights into the future of the conformity of fireplaces fuelled with wood. Perspectives beyond wood combustion were also a topic. Peter Havers from the traditional manufacturer Faber showed alternatives with the options of gas firing. A translator was present for the foreign guests.

There were also news from the association. Since March, Dr. Johannes Gerstner and Dirk Böhringer are in the management of the association. They follow Dr. Heinrich Göddeke, who retired because of age. In the future, the association will devote itself even more into political work and networking as well as at the same time intensify its technical cooperation in the standardization committees. The next important dates are the future workshop from 24 until 25 June in Leipzig and the autumn conference from 24 until 25 October in Berlin.

The RRF goes even “greener”

After switching from common lighting to newer LED lighting in 2017 in our laboratory in Oberhausen, our laboratory in Drolshagen is now also equipped with the energy saving and environmentally friendly version of the light supply.

Congratulations to Mr. Fischer

Gerstner on the topic of click-journalism in connection with product placement.

On the members meeting the many important topics such as the EFA-Index, the summary of the technical convention, TC 166 and TC 295 standards, the new standard series “EN 16510 – Residential solid fuel burning appliances”, the revision of the national rules (e. g. 1. The EFA index is a branch marker that has been collected by the fireplace working group, in cooperation with the professional journal “Kachelofen & Kamin”, according to the scientific criteria since end of last year and allows an overview of the branch. In regular intervals the magazine is presented. We would be pleased, if you too, could incorporate in this matter to create a meaningful industry ratio. Under the following link you can find the EFA index and participate in it. The more are involved, the better the quality of the data.
